Free Pattern - Harlequin Shawl
Hi Guys,
It been a hot minute since I popped up a post, so I thought its about time to release another Peach&Paige original pattern for free - The Harlequin Shawl
With Xmas creeping up on us before we know it, its a great time to start working on those handmade gifts. This shawl/scarf is a great beginners project and works up nice and quick!
This pattern is a very simple design starting at one point, increasing until the center then decreasing to the other point. I have provided size guides for a toddler, child and adult sized scarf but you can really make this scarf as big or as small as you wish - just keep increasing until you reach your desired halfway point then start decreasing.
The grey and white adult version I made was made using an 8ply wool. It is quite a thick wool and more like a 10ply weight. I have also made this scarf in Stylecraft Batik 8ply and have seen it done in Patons Sierra 8ply with beautiful results. You can easily substitute the yarn to a heavier weight yarn and hook and adjust the size accordingly. The sky really is the limit with this project!
I've also added tassels to the end of the shawl, you could easily leave these off over even switch out for some fluffy pom pom's!
The full pattern is written out below for FREE, however if you prefer a printable PDF without the Ad's, you can get the download via the below links as usual!
If you enjoy this pattern, please check out my other patterns available.
You can also find other free patterns published here.
Let's Begin!

Notes;
This Shawl is worked in rows, starting from one end point, increasing to the center point, then decreasing back to the other end. I have changed colours half way through the shawl to create more visual interest, however you can simply do this shawl in a single colour, or change colour at other points.
Chain stitches at the end of the row are not including in the stitch count. Shawl is made in a repeating pattern of bobble and fillet rows. Instructions for the bobble stich is below
Numbers in brackets at the end of a row dictate the number of stitches in that row. I have also included instructions for creating the optional tassels at the end of this pattern.
Special Stitch - Bobble Stitch
The bobble stitch is worked on the wrong side of your work. It is simply a cluster of 5 Double Crochets in one stitch. **below pictures are from a bonnet pattern, however the stitch is the same**
*YO, insert into St, YO, pull up loop, YO and pull through 2 loops* Repeat between ** another 4 times into the same stitch. You will have 6 Loops on the hook. YO, pull through all loops on the hook. This is 1 Bobble stitch.

Edging
Continue here for all sizes
Sc around the entire edge of the shawl, changing colours as needed until you get back to the start.
When you get to the center point, work 3x sc into the same stitch to get a more defined corner.
Tassels
You will need rectangle piece of cardboard. Preferable a stronger cardboard which doesn’t bend easily. My cardboard is 10cm across and 12cm long.
Wrap your yarn around the cardboard longways approx. 50times and cut.
Take another length of yarn approx. 20cm in length, slide under the loop of yarn and tie together.
Cut the other end across and remove the cardboard
Wrap yarn around the Tassel approx. 2cm from the top tie. Tie up and trim all ends.
Use the ties to secure Tassels to either end of the shawl.
I hope you enjoyed this pattern!
What (brand, color) yarn was used for the pink multi-color shawl pictured?

I am confused re your depth and width measures. With the toddler size, is the width the total length at 103 cm and the depth, 37 cm, the width?
I am just familiar with width and length measurements. Thanks.
