Avery Infinity Scarf - Free Crochet Pattern

This infinity scarf pattern is one of the first patterns I published and it is still a go to favorite. As this pattern is just so simple I decided it was time to share this one for free!

The below pattern comes in 2x kids sizes, but you can easily adjust this pattern to fit any size you wish!

I find infinity scarfs are great options for kids as they can run and play without worrying about loose scarfs ends dragging along in the dirt.

This pattern is super quick and easy to work up and is a great beginner project!

 Avery Infinity Scarf Crochet Pattern

Sizes;

  • 1-3 years – width 8cm – length 95cm
  • 4-10years – width 10cm – length 110cm

Gauge is not too important for this pattern. Just measure at the end of round 1 to check your scarf is long enough.

Stitches - US terms;

Hdc -  Half Double Crochet
BPO -
Back post only
FLO -
Front loop only
Ch -
Chain
SlSt -
Slip Stitch

Materials;

  • Yarn – 10 ply/Aran weight yarn. I use a superwash merino. Double stranded so you will need 2x balls approx. 150m each.
  • 8mm hook
  • Yarn needle

Scarf is crocheted in rounds. Each round will have the same number of stitches as the beginning chain.

Each round is joined with a slip stitch into the first stitch of that round.

Step up chains are not counted as a stitch. First stitch of each round is worked into the same stitch as the join.

Pattern is written for size 1-3 years and the 4-10 years conversion will follow in brackets.

E.g.

Round 2 – In BPO, Hdc 95 (105)  ….

Lets get started!

Working with 2 strands of yarn and a 8mm hook, Ch 105 (115)** and join to the first chain with a SlSt – being careful not to twist your chain. Ch 2.

**note – make sure these chains are nice and loose or you will have a short wonky scarf!

To make a bigger scarf e.g Adult size, increase the number of chains to get the desired length.

Round 1 – Hdc 105 (115), join with a SlSt in BPO**, Ch 2

**What is the Back Post? - When doing a standard crochet stitch, you insert your hook under both the front (in pink) and back loop (in blue). These are the ‘V’ stitches along the top of your work. Behind the back loop is another loop called the back post (in green). This is the loop your working into for BPO. **

Round 2 – In BPO, Hdc 105 (115). join in FLO and Ch 2.

Round 3 – In FLO, Hdc 105 (115), join in BPO, Ch 2.

Round 4 – In BPO, Hdc 105 (115), join in FLO, Ch 2.

Round 5 – 8(10) – Repeat rounds 3 and 4 another 2(3) times. Do not Ch2 at the end of this last round. Instead cut the yarn and tie off. Weave in your ends.

For a bulkier scarf you can keep repeating rounds 3 and 4 until you achieve the width you like.

To wear, simply twist the big loop like a figure 8, and fold in half.

Thankyou!
